Senior Zoey Hughes is VFW Essay Contest Winner

Senior Zoey Hughes won the local, district, and state competitions sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) "Voice of Democracy" contest for her essay, "Why is the Veteran Important?"

Veterans gave Zoey a standing ovation when she was presented with her District award (see photo) and read her essay at Post 6470 in Leesville. On February 18 she will read her essay at the state banquet, and several weeks later will travel to Washington DC to compete in the National Parade of Winners on March 6.  We wish Zoey the best and believe she can bring back the $30,000 Voice of Democracy grand prize scholarship.
