Two Dreher Students Win Rotary Scholarships

Congratulations to seniors Rashard Brown and Reagan Smith.  Rashard will recieve $20,000 in scholarship money from the Columbia Rotary Club and Reagan will receive the same from the Capital Rotary Club.  The selection process for both prizes was a rigorous one involving an application, an essay, and a panel interview.

 

Rashard is the son of Joy Smiley.  He will graduate from Dreher in the top 12% of the senior class, having taken nine Advanced Placement classes.  In addition to his academic courses, Rashard studied Automotive Technology at Heyward Career and Technology Center and will graduate with an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification from Heyward. Rashard played varsity football and basketball and ran track.

 

Rashard will be attending Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he plans on studying mechanical engineering.  

 

Reagan is the daughter of Mary Catoe and Michael Smith.  She will graduate from Dreher among the top ten of her senior class, having taken fourteen Advanced Placement courses and having been one of the first students in the nation to earn the AP Capstone Diploma.  Reagan qualified for national competition in theatre and is a member of Blue Devil Mechanics, Dreher's robotics team. 

 

Reagan will study chemical engineering at The Cooper Union in New York City.
