Welcome Back Message

Greetings Falcon Families!

We are looking forward to seeing our Falcons on campus for the first day of school on Tuesday, August 16th! First block begins at 8:00 am, and Tuesday is an A-Day! We are also truly thankful for our teachers, faculty, staff, and parent volunteers who have been working hard for the return of our Falcon students. As a reminder, Freshmen and New Student Orientation is on Monday, August 15th from 8:00 am to 11:30 am.

Please review the attached document that details our general student expectations here at Flora. Teaching and learning can only occur in a safe, orderly environment, and we ask that you review these expectations with your Falcon prior to the first day of school. We will also be holding Class Meetings during the first week of school to communicate these expectations directly with students.

Below, we have briefly summarized the main points of information that you will want to know in order to be prepared for the first day of school. You can always find additional information on our web site, and teachers will be communicating course-specific details on the first day of school. Please read this information carefully (and click on all links) to help us make your student's first day smooth.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL: Our school day begins at 8:00 am and students are allowed on campus at 7:30 am. Please note that we are unable to provide supervision for your child before 7:30 am. When students arrive, they may report to the cafeteria for breakfast or they may report to the Upper and/or Lower Courtyards. Students will be released to go to 1st Block at 7:45 am.  At 3:15 pm our instructional day ends. Students are expected to go immediately to the bus loop, carpool line, parking lot, or directly to a faculty-supervised activity, rehearsal, or practice. Your student should be picked up at 3:15 pm unless they are with a Flora adult in an organized and supervised capacity.

Students should familiarize themselves with bus routes and be at the bus stop at least five minutes before the listed time. As a reminder, masks are required on school buses. Car riders and student drivers should plan to arrive early in order to avoid heavy traffic and delays. All non-bus riders should familiarize themselves with the Carpool Map and Carpool Information. A general rule of thumb is to be here before 7:45 so you have plenty of time to navigate traffic and get to class. We anticipate heavy traffic and delays in the first few days of school, so we appreciate your patience and understanding as we all get back into the morning routine at Flora!

LAPTOPS/ID'S/TEXTBOOKS/MATERIALS: Laptops and textbooks will be distributed to all students in the first week of school. Each teacher will provide students with specific details about materials/resources needed for their particular class on the first day. Every student will be issued an official school ID. Once printed and given to students, ID's are required to be worn and displayed at all times while on campus.

COMMUNICATION: Communication will absolutely be key in this new year. We encourage students and parents to contact their teachers directly with questions or concerns about a class/assignment. Our school counselors, administrators, and support staff are also available to help you at any time. Email is generally the most efficient method of communication, but we also encourage you to call the school at any time if you have a question or concern. As a general rule of thumb, students and parents should expect a response to an email/voicemail within 48 hours (during the work week) of sending your initial message. Also please remember that teachers have other responsibilities during the day, at night, and on the weekends, and may not always be able to answer/respond immediately. The AC Flora web site contains a large amount of reference information for students, families, and the community. This is the primary place for items such as Bell SchedulesA/B Day Calendar, forms, directions, contacts, and other general information.

Every student in Richland One has an email address. We encourage students to use it when communicating with teachers, and we encourage students to check their email at least once a day. We do send out information directly to student emails throughout the year, so students should plan to regularly check their emails in order to stay up to date with what’s happening at Flora. Information on accessing student email addresses will be communicated when students receive their laptops.

BREAKFAST/LUNCH: If students arrive to campus and would like to eat breakfast, they should report directly to the Cafeteria upon arrival. We have two lunches at AC Flora, and we will communicate additional logistics directly to students on the first day. Breakfast and lunch are free for all students at AC Flora. Students may eat in the cafeteria or courtyards or, with a pass and permission, a teacher’s classroom. Students are not allowed to leave campus at lunch and food may not be delivered, picked up, or brought by/to any student at any time.

VISITORS: All visitors to our campus must report to the main office, and sign in with the front desk. Parents, please help us by refraining from bringing lunch, food, or any other delivery to your students during the school day. Other than for absolute emergencies, we do not have the ability to deliver items to students!

We look forward to seeing all of our Falcons next week, and we will continue to update you throughout the first week of school. We know the return to school comes with many emotions, excitement, anxieties, and anticipation. We are ready for whatever this year has in store, and we are looking forward to working with you to ensure that your child has a safe, supportive, and successful year. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions at all. We are here to help and are excited for a great year!

Thanks and Go Falcons!
