Ms. Melvin Selected for SEC Extra Yard Teacher Initiative

Jack Parrot, a University of South Carolina golf star and A.C. Flora High School graduate, recently selected his Flora social studies teacher, Bailey Melvin, to be honored in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Extra Yard for Teachers Initiative.

A story about Parrot and the impact Ms. Melvin had on his life will be broadcast on SEC Nation on the SEC Network. In addition to this recognition, Ms. Melvin will receive a $3,500 grant to purchase school supplies and materials. The SEC and the College Football Playoffs (CFP) Foundation sponsor the Extra Yard project to support teachers and bring awareness to the importance of education. The broadcast date for the story about Ms. Melvin and Jack has not been announced.

“This is quite an honor for Ms. Melvin,” said Flora Principal Susan Childs. “I found it quite impressive that Jack Parrot noted this A.C. Flora teacher as having a major impact on his life. I think athletes typically think of a coach in this role, yet Ms. Melvin does not coach athletics. However, she is an amazing ‘coach’ in the classroom. This is great news.”
