Information for Parents & Students (8/20/20)
Greetings Falcon Families!
We have a number of important updates for you as we get closer to the first day of school on August 31st! We are looking forward to welcoming our teachers back next week to continue planning for this very unique school year, and we look forward to continuing on this journey with all our families at AC Flora. Below you will find important updates for all families, and, as always, we are happy to answer any questions that you have.
STUDENT SCHEDULES: We anticipate the sharing of student schedules to happen very soon! You will be able to view your schedule in Power School and we want to make sure you know how to correctly interpret what you will see on your screens. Once we release schedules, we will also send out information on how to read your schedule, how to request a change (we are very limited on changes we can make at this time FYI), and who to go to if you have any questions. We know this is important and we thank you for being so patient and understanding as we work to get schedules correct for every one of our Falcons!
BEGINNING OF THE YEAR PROCEDURES: Once schedules have been distributed, we will send out information on “bell” schedules, eLearning procedures, and more back-to-school information. To be clear, all students need to be prepared to sign on to Teams on Monday, August 31st, which is the official first day of school. Again, we will be sending out details on first day/week procedures very soon.
MAKE-UP LAPTOP DISTRIBUTION PROCEDURES: Were you unable to make it this week to come get your laptop? No worries! If you were unable to come on a scheduled day, or if you are a new-to-Richland One student, we will hold make-up laptop distribution next Tuesday, August 25th, 8:00 am-12:30 pm or 1:30-3:30 pm. This will be the last chance to pick up your laptop before the new year! All you need to do is enter our campus via Brentwood Drive and come to the Media Center in the back of the school. If you have any questions or concerns about picking up your laptop, please email Assistant Principal Tori Simmons.
FRESHMEN LAPTOPS: All Richland One freshmen will receive brand new laptops this fall. The laptop that you have been initially issued will eventually be exchanged for a brand new (and better-functioning) laptop in the near future. As you can imagine, orders for laptops have been delayed across the country due to high demand, but we hope to have our new laptops very soon. Once they arrive, we will communicate the process for exchanging your current laptop for the new one that will be assigned to you. We will communicate the details of this process as soon as we have the laptops on our campus.
FRESHMEN ORIENTATION WEEK: Please see this attachment for specifics on Freshmen Orientation Week (August 25th-28th)! Our Student Council has organized a number of useful and helpful tips, tricks, videos, and other info for the Class of 2024, and we look forward to your participation. Again, make sure to check out the attachment and follow along next week! Details about orientations can be found here.
PARKING PASS CONFIRMATIONS: We will begin sending parking pass confirmations early next week. If you have not already requested a parking pass, please visit tinyurl.com/FalconParking2020 and follow the directions found on the form. Even if you do not already have all the necessary documentation, you can still go ahead and request a parking pass. Please note that the deadline to apply for the Standard Pass is September 1st and the deadline to apply for the Hybrid Pass is September 14th. All details can be found in the attachment to this email.
SENIOR PORTRAITS/UNDERCLASSMEN PICTURES: We are tentatively scheduled to hold senior portraits on September 24th and 25th. While we hope to have this event on these dates, please be prepared to be flexible should things change between now and then. We are also in the process of scheduling underclassmen pictures and we will, of course, make you aware of any updates and changes, and of all the necessary details, as soon as we have them.
GRADUATION ITEMS: We are still organizing the date/process for ordering our Class of 2021 graduation supplies. This will likely occur in mid-September, and much of this process will be available online. Please be on the lookout for this information from both AC Flora and Jostens/Rhodes Graduation Services.
DISTRIBUTION DAYS: We recognize that students will need certain items from certain classes throughout the year. These items would include things like textbooks, calculators, novels, instruments, and more. We will be compiling all these needs together, and coordinating a process for students to come pick up these items all at once so that multiple trips to school can be avoided. Right now, we are tentatively hoping this process will occur during the beginning of September, but we will confirm these details once we have them. Rest assured that your student will have everything they need to maximize learning this year, and we thank you for allowing our teachers the time to collaborate and plan together as they determine which items are needed for your student’s success.
Please do not hesitate to let us know what we can do for you!
Thanks and Go Falcons!
