Three Richland One students have been named as winners of the highly prestigious National Merit Scholarships, which recognize outstanding academic achievement.
Dreher High School student Leon Wang, who plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to study engineering and physics, was awarded a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Michael B. Davis of A.C. Flora High School and Bryson J. Stakely of Dreher were awarded National Merit Scholarships financed by the University of South Carolina, where Michael plans to pursue a degree in physical therapy, and Bryson will seek a degree in music. Winners of scholarships from colleges and universities were selected from among the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program finalists who plan to attend their institutions. These awards provide $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.
Additional recipients of college-sponsored awards will be announced July 12.
