Richland One Students Win State and Regional Mock Trial Awards and Scholarships

Dreher High School students had excellent showings at the recent State and Regional Mock Trial competitions, which were held virtually this year.

At the State Mock Trial Competition, Dreher’s team won two of the three rounds and placed sixth overall. Students also earned peer awards from other high school teams, as well as the judges, for having the most effective attorneys and witnesses during their trial presentations. Dreher placed third at the Regional Mock Trial event, which qualified the team to advance to the state competition.

The team is coached by world history teacher James Bryan Patterson and Columbia attorney David Shea.

“These students did a wonderful job this year,” said Mr. Patterson. “In a year that was anything but easy and normal, they worked hard, and not only made it to State Competition, for the second year in a row, but finished with a four-spot improvement in their final ranking compared to last year.  This team pulled together and showed the R1 Strong Spirit and the Dreher Blue Devil heart.”
