Summer SOAR 2021: Richland One Registering Students Now for Summer Academic, Enrichment Programs
Richland One will offer students dozens of exciting camps and programs to fill their summer with adventure, academic enrichment, science, technology, the arts and everything in between.
The district’s seven-week Summer SOAR camps and enrichment programs, which will be held June 21-July 29, offer parents a variety of programs to select from to suit their children’s diverse needs and interests. Registration is open now.
This year’s course offerings primarily address students’ academic skill development to combat summer learning loss, also known as the “Summer Slide” or more recently called the “COVID Slide.” The programs also will provide opportunities for content area skill building and exploration, remediation and credit acquisition. Summer SOAR will assist students in preparing for the new academic year by exposing them to a wide array of enrichment and academic opportunities.
Summer SOAR includes programs for pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school students, as well as adult education courses. Most programs will be held at Richland One schools and other district facilities. Many programs are free, while fees are charged for others. Programs offered include robotics, career preparation, work readiness, building drones and rockets, reading, IB (International Baccalaureate) prep, math, aviation and a whole lot more. Richland One Adult Ed courses will be virtual and provided at no cost.
“Our diverse Summer SOAR programs are designed to provide students with customized, individualized and engaging programs propelling their academic growth and success,” said Dr. Traci Cooper, director of strategic partnerships and extended-day programs. “Parents can combine as many programs as they like and take advantage of the district’s early-bird and extended-day child care options.
Parents are encouraged to go to www.richlandone.org/soar for detailed descriptions of each program. The Summer SOAR Hotline [(803) 400-1692] will be open to parents from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. through August 5.
