Richland One IT Department Wins National Cybersecurity Award

Mark Leslie Richland One’s IT (Information Technology) Department is the winner of the prestigious 2021 Tyler Public Sector Excellence Award, which recognizes the district’s outstanding cybersecurity efforts.

The award from Tyler Technologies Corporation, a company specializing in management systems for national and international government and public sector entities, is given to clients demonstrating excellence in developing, deploying or maintaining security systems.

Mark Leslie (pictured above), Richland One’s technology operations coordinator, says being proactive and staying in front of any potential security threats is his network security team’s top priority.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic and the move to eLearning as opposed to traditional instruction, augmenting our security systems and other proactive steps have helped us to stay secure and keep our students safe online,” Leslie said. “The Tyler Award recognizes Richland One for its efforts in keeping the district safe from external threats, as well as ensuring that sensitive data isn’t transmitted over the network. This achievement is a reflection of the persistent work of our network security manager, Ken Dixon.”

Leslie said one of the safety measures the district emphasizes is using training tools to educate its faculty and staff about the threats of phishing and ransomware.

As an Excellence Award winner, Richland One’s success story will be shared virtually at the Tyler Connect Conference April 26-28
