Beats headphones, earbuds, $25 gift cards and Fitbits are just some of the fabulous prizes Richland One high school students could win just by taking home free school meals.
Starting the week of March 8, scratch-off cards will be included in the take-home meal bags distributed to students at each district high school. Students with winning tickets can claim their prizes by turning them in to their school’s cafeteria manager.
It’s all part of an effort by the district’s Nutrition Services Office to encourage more high schoolers to participate in the district’s meal program.
“Sometimes it is difficult to attract high schoolers to participate because some may think it’s not ‘cool’ to take meals home from school,” said Nutrition Services Director Tracy Dixon. “We believe that by making participation fun, more students will take the meals and at the same time receive healthy and nutritious meals to enjoy at home.”
Ms. Dixon says the scratch-off promotion, which is being funded through various rebate programs with some of the district’s current food vendors, will continue until all prizes have been awarded
