Three Dreher High School students have won Regional Scholastic Art Awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition, a national high school competition sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.
Individual paintings by students Gayle Boyd and Layla Davis received the Golden Key Award, which qualifies them to compete in the national division. Student artist Julia Gonzalez Del Valle received the Silver Key Award for her painting.
Jennifer Gorlewski, Dreher’s Secondary Visual Arts Lead Teacher, reflected on her students’ talents and accomplishments with these words:
“Layla, Julia, and Gayle are currently taking AP Art with me this year. They all demonstrate tremendous skill in visual art. They amaze me every day with their creativity, problem solving, and experimentation. I am so proud of these young ladies, showing tremendous strength and dedication this year, creating works that are well beyond their years, regardless of the conditions that we are in right now.”
Richland One extends its congratulations to these outstanding young artists, their teachers, parents and supporters.
National Scholastic art winners will be announced March 17. Learn more about the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition on this website: Home | Alliance for Young Artists & Writers (artandwriting.org)
