Richland One Golfer Swings Into History at State Championship

It was a win for the history books. A.C. Flora High School golfer Gracie McCoy shot 2 over par October 27 to win the Girls 4A State Golf Championship, the first for a member of Flora’s girls golf team.

Flora Athletics Director Dr. Edward Moore says what makes Gracie’s historic accomplishment so amazing is that the senior has only been playing golf since her tenth-grade year.

“With the storied history of A.C. Flora's athletics program, we rarely get to celebrate a 'first ever' accomplishment, so when we do, it makes it extra special. When an athlete progresses from being a first-time player to a state champion in such a short period of time, it’s a sign of tremendous focus and work ethic as an athlete and great leadership in coaching.”

Flora’s success at the state championship also included another outstanding accomplishment. Gracie and her teammates, with a two-round total of 674, took home a silver team medal for Flora as state runner-ups.

Other members of this exceptional Flora golf team include Meadows Dargan, Merritt Barbrey, Kaitlyn Stonehill, Sarah Campbell Brown, Addison Goethe, Louise Vipperman, Grayson Taylor, Addi Clark, Sara Macias and Lilly Smith. The team is coached by Robert Dargan, David Dargan and Blair Dargan.
