Richland One is hiring custodians and skilled maintenance workers, including electricians, electrician apprentices, HVAC mechanics, plumbers and landscapers.
The district offers qualified applicants many advantages including competitive salaries, flexible schedules and South Carolina retirement and health benefits.
Applicants for custodial positions must have a high school diploma, GED or a bronze or silver score on the Ready to Work Career Readiness Assessment, commonly referred to as the WIN Test. The flexible work schedules of custodial staff allow them more time to take care of family or other responsibilities and interests, said Melvin Henry, Richland One’s director of building services.
“We have part-time and full-time custodial positions available, as well as positions on crews that work at night,” Henry said. “Custodians working the evening or night shift can earn an extra $1,000 a year. Custodial employees have the option to work either nine months or 12 months out of the year. We also need building coordinators and area supervisors.”
Applicants for the skilled maintenance positions must be certified and/or in trained as electricians, electrician apprentices, plumbers and HVAC mechanics. The district also needs painters, a paint supervisor, a landscape supervisor, entry-level landscapers and landscaper techs with CDL (commercial driver’s licenses) and pest control application licenses.
Building Services employees get district holidays off, including spring and winter breaks. The district’s On-Call Pay Program also offers employees an extra $105 a week for agreeing to respond to district emergencies. “But above all,” Henry added, “we want people with great customer service skills to join our team.”
