The School Improvement Council (SIC) of Pine Grove Elementary School has received state recognition for its dedication and excellence in supporting the success of the school, students and staff.
Pine Grove’s SIC has been named a 2020 Honor Roll recipient by the South Carolina School Improvement Council (SC-SIC). Pine Grove’s SIC and nine other SICs across the state were chosen for this honor because of their significant efforts to foster civic engagement in public education and to make a positive difference for their schools.
“We are so proud of our dedicated SIC members and their support of our families and staff,” said Pine Grove Principal Dr. Tracy Pickett. “Our SIC recently helped our Advance Academic Program teacher Jacklyn Wallace host a successful Real Men Read event that included a community panel. SIC members also have worked diligently with me to improve student attendance and develop relationships with our faith-based community. We are so grateful for all that they do for Pine Grove.”
As an Honor Roll SIC, Pine Grove and the other nine schools will continue in the running for SC-SIC’s annual Dick and Tunkey Riley Award for School Improvement Council Excellence, named for the former U.S. secretary of education and South Carolina governor and his late wife. Five finalists will be chosen in March and the recipient of the Riley Award will be announced at the 2020 SC-SIC Annual Meeting on April 4 in Columbia.
