The Dreher High School Marching Band has earned a number of outstanding ratings in band competitions throughout the year, but its history-making feat occurred on October 26 at the SC Band Directors Association 3A State Championship. After earning a superior rating and winning second place in the performance category, the Dreher band placed sixth in the competition – the highest level any Richland One band program has ever achieved. Dreher’s Dance Company, which serves as the band’s color guard, placed fourth in the statewide competition. Pictured accepting the award are band drum majors Hannah Gross and Addison Lee.

Creativity has made two Caughman Road Elementary School reading teachers $500 richer. Martha Garvin (pictured on the left) was named as one of two winners in the SC Department of Education’s Read Your Way to the Big Game Bulletin Board Contest. The bulletin board contest for teachers is held in conjunction with the Read Your Way to the Big Game competition, which encourages students to read six books for a chance to win tickets to the Clemson vs. South Carolina football game on November 30. Pictured left to right are Garvin and reading coach Ashley Pope, who also worked on the winning bulletin board. Even though only one teacher’s name could be officially listed on the entry form, Garvin plans to share the prize money with Pope.
