Kira Simmons, a rising fifth-grader at Burton-Pack Elementary School, has been crowned the 2019 Miss South Carolina Junior Pre-Teen. She will compete for the national title in November in Anaheim, California. She’ll also visit Disneyland and take a tour of Hollywood.
Kira, whose motto is “you’re not a quitter; your strong is beautiful,” is the daughter of her very proud parents, Candise and Marcus Simmons. During the pageant, which was held June 30, she was escorted by her twin brother, Karl. At the competition, contestants were judged on formal wear, a personal introduction and an interview with the judges.
“She didn’t expect to win the crown, but when she did, she was so humble and happy and just started crying,” said Candise Simmons. “I’m so proud of her especially because it’s awesome to know that we have a shining star in our community.”
Kira’s mom says she’s a pretty typical 10-year-old with a great sense of humor who enjoys spending time with her family, doing arts and crafts, and reading Goosebumps books.
