Richland One Announces Global Family Winter Clothing Drive
Although Richland One students represent families speaking more than 70 different languages, kindness and generosity are actions we all can understand and appreciate.
Richland One’s World Languages and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Program invites the community to donate new and gently used winter coats, sweaters, caps and gloves that will be given to international families in the district.
Items for men, women and children can be dropped off 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. through December 14 at ESOL offices, which are located at 2612 Covenant Road (in the back section of the Adult Education building). The clothing will be provided to the 400-500 families expected to attend the program’s first Global Family Event on December 15.
“Richland One has more than 1,200 students who are English learners and we want to do what we can to show their parents and families how to help their children succeed in school, as well as provide them with community resources,” said Ernesto Bernal, coordinator of Richland One’s World Languages and ESOL Programs.
Community members who would like more information about the winter clothing drive should contact ESOL staff members Jonathan White or Xenia Nation at 212-1475. Media inquiries should be directed to the Richland One Office of Communications at 231-7504 or 231-7510.
