Lower Richland High Student-Athlete Named All-American at Adidas Track Nationals

Lower Richland High School student-athlete Jhnai Sumter was named an All-American at the Adidas Track Nationals, which were held June 14-16 at the Marcus T. Johnson Track Complex at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical (A&T) State University in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Jhnai placed third overall in the javelin championship competition and eighth in the shot put national elite competition.

“I feel good about being named an All-American. I really succeeded at a big level. It was a good experience knowing that I was going against different competitors and seeing what it’s like to be on a top level,” said Jhnai, who will begin her junior year at Lower Richland in August.

In May, Jhnai won the 2024 Class AAA individual state championship title in girls shot put. She also placed second in girls discus.

Andrea Hallmon-Lucas, Lower Richland’s girls track and field head coach, says Jhnai’s title as an All-American is a big win for the program.

“This is a great opportunity for Jhnai to achieve such a high honor in track and field. This helps enhance what we do in our track and field program and helps other athletes see the beauty in continuing to compete and competing at a national level,” said Hallmon-Lucas.

In addition to competing in track and field, Jhnai is also a member of Lower Richland’s girls basketball, cross country and tennis teams.
