Watkins-Nance Elementary STEM Consultant Named South Carolina Civil Air Patrol’s Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year

Watkins-Nance Elementary School STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Consultant Stephanie Long has been named the 2024 Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year by the South Carolina Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.

The award recognizes Civil Air Patrol members who are certified K-12 teachers for their accomplishments in aerospace/STEM education and for helping inspire students to go into aerospace-related career fields.

I hope that by winning this award it will inspire hope in our teachers, ignite the imagination in our students and instill a love of learning through aerospace and STEM,” said Long.

Long will now be considered for the Civil Air Patrol’s Mid-Atlantic Region Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year award.  If she wins that award, she will be considered for the Civil Air Patrol’s national award.

The Civil Air Patrol is the United States’ “premier public service organization for carrying out emergency services and disaster relief missions nationwide” and is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. The organization also offers an aerospace education program that offers hands-on aerospace/STEM lessons to its members, as well as a cadet program meant to “transform youth into dynamic Americans and aerospace leaders.”
