Three Richland One Educators Named Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts
Three Richland One educators have been named Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Experts for the 2023-2024 school year. The MIE program recognizes visionaries in the field who are using technology to enhance the instruction of their colleagues for improved student outcomes. Six educators from across South Carolina were selected for the distinction.
Cathleen Lacey, a curriculum resource teacher (CRT) at Crayton Middle School, has been named an MIE Expert for the fourth consecutive year, as well as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Fellow for the second consecutive year. She is one of two fellows for the Mid-Atlantic region.
“The MIEE program has had a significant impact on both my personal and professional life. I have acquired a wealth of knowledge by learning from fellow members of the MIEE community, which has empowered me to share my learning not only within Richland School District One but also on a global scale,” said Lacey.
Jason Davis, an English Language Arts (ELA) teacher at Crayton Middle School, and Sean Samon, one of Richland One’s secondary ELA curriculum consultants, are in their first year as MIE Experts.
“Being recognized as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert is a significant milestone in my career and a testament to our collective dedication to making education more engaging, accessible and impactful. As a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, I am committed to integrating technology seamlessly into our teaching methods, and fostering a culture of creativity, curiosity, and collaboration among my students,” said Davis.
“I enjoy working with teachers. A piece of that is training them on how to use technology in a way that is effective for teaching students how to be critical thinkers. Being an MIE Expert gives me an opportunity to train other teachers on Microsoft like how I have,” said Samon.
