Richland One Honors Middle School Scholars

Middle School Scholars -.jpgRichland One recognized 169 middle school students for their achievements during the 2022 Middle School Scholars Awards Ceremony, which was held May 12 in the Eau Claire High School Theatre.

To qualify for the Richland One Middle School Scholars distinction, students met the following criteria:

      • Enrolled and completed two or more Gifted and Talented courses each academic year. These courses are the pathways for Algebra I, English I and Geometry.
      • Maintained a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) in Honors and Gifted and Talented courses throughout their middle school experience. GPA is computed on a four-point scale with an “A” counting four points.
      • Participated in extracurricular activities which are not required by the school but have an educational basis. All activities are based upon active participation and regular attendance.

Fifty-two Richland One middle school students qualified as South Carolina Junior Scholars this year. The Junior Scholars Program was developed by the South Carolina Department of Education in the 1985-1986 school year to identify eighth-grade students with exceptional academic talent and to develop strategies for inclusion into special programs. The only criteria for recognition is that by eighth grade, the student’s PSAT/NMSQT scores are 550 or higher in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing or 530 or higher in Mathematics.
