  • FAQ
  • Below are the answers to some of our frequently asked questions.
Questions are listed in order of popularity, starting with the most asked question of the Guidance Department.

How can I get a copy of my transcript for my own records or to send to colleges, NCAA, scholarships, etc?
Transcripts are all handled electronically via Parchment.  This is the fastest, most reliable, and preferred way to send transcripts to other establishments.  To order your transcript, please click on "Transcripts" under the "College Counseling" tab for instructions.

I am a parent and have already created a Parchment account with another student that graduated but cannot see my current high school student's information, why?
We have found that this is true for most families with multiple students.  You need to create a different account with a different email address for each of your students.  For step by step instructions (with pictures) on how to create a new account and order a transcript, please click on "Transcripts" under the "College Counseling" tab.

I have already applied to college and sent my initial transcript.  Do I need to send a mid-year transcript and a final transcript?
Yes and yes!  Once your first semester grades are entered into our system (usually in mid-January), you can go back into Parchment to send your transcripts again which will have your mid-year grades. MANY (not all) colleges will require a transcript with mid-year grades.  The same is true at the end of your school year.  You will want to go back into Parchment the beginning of June to request your final transcript be sent. ALL colleges will require this final transcript.

I want my Counselor to write me a letter of recommendation.  What do I need to give him/her?
Please complete the Student Information Sheet (below) and deliver it to your Counselor.  Allow him or her some time to write your letter.  We know that sometimes deadlines slip up on us but remember that there are 1,400 students requiring assistance and 5 Counselors.  We want to write the best letter possible so make sure to give us at least a few days!

Where can I find other scholarship information?
The Counseling Office receives some information about scholarships.  We use this information to provide updates that can be located on the A.C. Flora homepage. Visit the homepage, click on the "School Counseling" tab, followed by the "College Counseling" tab, then "Scholarships."  We encourage students to do their own scholarship research as well due to the sheer volume of scholarships that are available to students via other outlets. Counselors are more than happy to help with this search and have provided some great resources on the Scholarship page to help you get started!

Where can I find information about scholarships and financial aid offered to South Carolina students?
If you're a senior planning on graduating and attending college in South Carolina, you're eligible for specific Scholarships and Grant Programs which are explained below.  For more information, please visit our "Scholarship" tab under the "College Counseling" section.

I've heard the SAT changed.  What is different?
For a description of the eight key changes and CollegeBoard's timeline of events, please visit Redesign of the SAT.  The first "Redesigned" SAT came out in March of 2016.

How do I find out how the different classes are weighted so I can calculate my GPA?
AC Flora offers College Prep (CP), Honors (H), Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes.  As a result, grades in different courses are weighted differently.  To become familiar with the weightings for your GPA, please see the chart below.  This information can also be found in the front of AC Flora's Agenda book which is issued to every student through Advisory in the fall.

What do I need to do to be a Richland One High School Scholar?
To become a High School Scholar, please visit the District's High School Scholars Requirements. This is something that will also be discussed at your annual Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meeting.

Why do I need to take Personal Health?  What is the class about?
The Comprehensive Health Education (CHE) Act of 1988 (59-32-5) requires that at least one time during the four years of grades 9-12, each student shall receive a program of instruction in comprehensive health education to include the following subjects: growth and development, nutritional health, substance use and abuse, dental health, mental and emotional health, environmental health, and more.

What classes do I need to take in order to graduate?
All information about South Carolina graduation requirements/credits can be found below.

I'm going to be missing a lot of school because I'm sick or have a medical issue.  What paperwork do I need to have filled out?
If you are going to miss more than 10 days as a result of a medical issue, please notify your Counselor.  He or she will explain the Homebound process, as well as the required form. The Homebound process has multiple steps and involves numerous individuals.  Once the paperwork process begins, our Homebound Coordinator will file your information with the District.
