eLearning Information
Richland County School District One is identified as an eLearning district.
How Did We Become an eLearning District?
Proviso (1A.65 – SDE-EIA: Digital Learning Plan – states that the implementation of the eLearning program is the responsibility of the Department of Education. Districts who meet the criteria to become an eLearning district as determined by the South Carolina Department of Education may use up to five eLearning days to allow for the make-up of short-term disruptions to in-person teaching and learning.
How are the Five eLearning Days Used?
Pursuant to 59-1-425 of the SC Code of Laws, each district is required to build in three make-up days into their school calendars. eLearning days themselves do not appear on the planning calendar. If an eLearning district must utilize a make-up day, the district can choose to do so with eLearning. When the make-up day is used in eLearning, it counts toward the five allowed days of eLearning, and it also counts as a school day. eLearning days are typically used because of emergency situations, such as inclement weather or utility interruptions.
How might an eLearning Day Look?
See Early Childhood/Elementary and Secondary eLearning documents.
How are Students Marked Present for an eLearning Day?
Because teachers will be meeting with students virtually, teachers will be taking attendance just as they do in their classroom. If connectivity or internet issues occur, students are also given up to five days when they return to school to submit their assignments. Teachers will have the flexibility to accept the completion of those assignments as documentation for the student’s attendance for that school day.
As a Parent or Guardian, What Do I Do If I Have Questions or an Issue during an eLearning Day?
There should be multiple means of communication available to students and parents regarding eLearning.
If it’s a question prior to an eLearning day, please feel free to reach out to your child’s school. They should be able to answer any question you may have.
If it’s a question or need during an eLearning day, teachers will have provided email addresses, a phone number and other options for communication during the day with students and parents.
