    Our Mission

The Caughman Road Elementary Media Center is an extension of the classroom.  In addition, the SLMP seeks to foster 21st century learning.  We seek to provide equitable access to materials and information for all CRES students. We strive to create an environment that promotes critical thinking & a lifelong love of learning.

    Policies and Procedures

The media center operates on an open, flexible schedule. This means that patrons are welcome anytime. Students in the lower grades visit the media center on a weekly, scheduled basis for story time and to check-out books. Students in upper grade levels visit in small groups to select books or to conduct research. All classes are encouraged to schedule time for collaborative lessons and group research.
Students in 2nd -5th grade can check-out up to three books. Books are due back in two weeks.  Note, if a student has overdue books, their ability to check-out additional books will be limited.

  • Meet Your Library Staff

    Mrs. Hering, Librarian

Hi!  I'm Mrs. Hering and I am your librarian here at Caughman Road Elementary.  I graduated from the University of South Carolina with my MLIS in May of 2018.  I began my teaching career in 2000 after graduating with a degree in Early Childhood & Elementary Education from Georgia Southern University.  Before becoming a librarian, I taught second and fourth grades in Florida, Georgia, and the Upstate.  I also worked at CRES as a Kindergarten assistant during graduate school.  I have been the librarian here at Caughman Road since 2018 and I love matching the right child with the right book!

I have a son and daughter who are alumni CRES's Montessori program and am wife to one amazing husband.  When I'm not at school, I enjoy snuggling with my dog, Murphy, and my trio of guinea pigs, Pixie, Trixie, and Olive.  I also love reading, listening to podcasts, and making jewelry.

Please stop by the library and say hi...you might even get to meet Pixie, Trixie, and Olive, who come to school with me most days!

    Sharon Austin

    Ms. Austin, Library Assistant

My name is Sharon Austin and I’ve been married to the most wonderful man for almost 32 years. And to this union we have 5 children and 10 grandchildren that are very dear to us.

I was born, raised and educated in the Philadelphia School System. In Philadelphia is where my love for education began and I’ve earned my Associates degree in Paralegal Studies from Philadelphia Community College; and a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice Administration.

In the Philadelphia School District, I served its community of students for approximately 15, before locating to Columbia South Carolina; where I served for 14 years. I left to begin a new career and retuned to my love for teaching and serving children. The rewards for me, working with children to create global learners and our tomorrow leaders have been far greater.

My experiences have made me knowledgeable, accessible, and an equitable fit to the RichandOne Family. Come and visit our Caughman Road Elementary School (CRES) Media Center and take an Adventure with us.
