The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, full scholarship for exceptional, Pell-eligible, minority, high school seniors. The scholarship will be awarded to 300 top student leaders each year with the intent of promoting their academic excellence through college graduation, and providing them the opportunity to reach their full potential.
The application is open, apply before September 15, 2019: Click here to apply.
The 2019-2020 LEDA application for high school juniors will open in September. Watch for the announcement.
To gain admission to the LEDA Scholars Program, students must complete a competitive application. The three-round process requires academic information and test scores, a personal statement and supplemental essay, a writing sample, biographical information, information on extracurricular activities, family financial information, and an interview for finalists.
The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) will be administered during the school day on October 16, 2019. All tenth and eleventh grade students will take the test.
The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT, but it is also:
*the initial screening for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
*an opportunity for certain juniors (African American, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, attend school in a rural area, or are from a small town) to participate in the College Board National Recognition Program.
Practice PSAT questions can be found online at the College Board website.
Students needing special accommodations for testing must apply to the College Board. Contact your counselor no later than August 23 for assistance with this process.
Both the ACT and the SAT will be administered at Dreher on different school days at no cost to juniors. The ACT will be administered on February 25, 2020 and the SAT on March 4, 2020.
Parents will select which test they would like their child to take. When making this choice, consider that we will offer the SAT at Dreher on three different Saturdays (November 2, December 7, and March 14), while we will not be offering the ACT at Dreher on any Saturday during the 2019-2020 school year.
