Leadership Richland One magnet programs challenge students by offering programs tailored to their strengths and exposing them to new experiences. These innovative programs challenge students to think creatively and analytically to solve problems, while diverse student body populations enable students to learn and see things from a different perspective. Leadership Richland One magnet programs enhance academic standards with innovative approaches to learning that maximize student potential. Whether it’s learning a new language, exploring career fields or learning about the Leader in Me, our magnets open doors of opportunity and spark the imagination of students, preparing them to become leaders in a global society.

    Participating Schools

    Carver-Lyon:  (Language Immersion and Leadership)

Carver-Lyon is a unique learning environment combining both Leadership and Language Immersion.

Students in the Richland One Language Immersion Program will develop English acquisition as well as language proficiency in Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. Core instruction is provided by two teachers, both of whom teach all students, one teaching in English, and one teaching in Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. South Carolina State Standards are utilized throughout the language immersion program. Students, however, take their math and science classes in Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. Literacy is taught in both languages (English and Spanish or Mandarin Chinese).

Related Arts classes (Art, Music, Physical Education, etc.) are taught in English. Each quarter, students will have one Related Arts class per week that will highlight either the Spanish or Chinese culture.

Parents and family members of Language Immersion students can take part in monthly workshops and language labs so the whole household can learn Spanish or Chinese.

In addition to being a Leadership Magnet School, all students, both Immersion and traditional students will be a part of the school-wide Leader in Me Magnet program. The Leader in Me process will help teachers unleash each child's full potential as a well-rounded global citizen. Students at Carver-Lyon will use Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, to learn and practice integrity, initiative, work ethic, cooperation, confidence, and service to the community.

During the 2019-2020 school year, our Language Immersion program will add French as the third language to the magnet.

    Bradley: (Career and Leadership)

Bradley’s Career Awareness magnet program offers innovative and collaborative experiences through a network of business and community partnerships. As part of the Leadership Richland One Career Magnet pathway, emphasis is on career awareness.

The Career Awareness Magnet builds upon the mindset allowing students to be forward-thinking problem finders and solvers. As we prepare students for careers that do not exist, we need them to persevere, be creative, innovative, great communicators, and multi-talented. Students will hear from speakers, video conference with those experts further away, and participate in content based excursions to see how the content they learn is applied in the real world.

Students interested in the Career Awareness magnet will make relevant connections between the curriculum and careers and partake in hands-on learning opportunities and collaboration with extensive community and corporate partnerships for real world connections. Through this approach, students begin to see the relevancy between what they are studying in the classroom now and their future careers.

Students, school-wide, will take part of the school-wide Leader in Me Magnet program. The Leader in Me process will help teachers unleash each child's full potential as a well-rounded global citizen. All students at Bradley will use Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, to learn and practice integrity, initiative, work ethic, cooperation, confidence, and service to the community.

Students will participate in job-shadowing (on-site and virtual), gain internship experiences, visit growing industries around our state, country and in other countries.

    Keenan: (Career/Engineering and Leadership)

Students will be able to complete studies in one of four programs as part of their graduation credits. The school will offer four academies to help students prepare for jobs in the fields of Engineering, Government, Hospitality and Tourism, and Entrepreneurship. Through an academic foundation paired with career-informed courses and work-based learning experiences, graduates may continue to a four-year university, or apply their earned credits towards an Associate degree, certificate, or diploma program at any technical school.

The four academies leverages college-level expertise to inform the development of magnet course offerings and strengthens overall program rigor. Strong and visible partnerships with local colleges and universities as well as businesses provide invaluable resources.  Students have opportunities to take specialized courses, interact with experts in these fields, and participate in on-site visits

Engineering will be the first magnet academy to open at Keenan. Engineering brings together science, technology, engineering and math (also called STEM) in ways that make learning fun. Students work together to ask, imagine, plan, create and improve as a way to solve real world problems and improve learning in all subjects areas. Through this approach, students begin to see how those subjects are relevant to what they are studying in the classroom and the real world.

Students, school-wide, will take part of the school-wide Leader in Me Magnet program. The Leader in Me process will help teachers unleash each child's full potential as a well-rounded global citizen. All students at W.J. Keenan High will use Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, to learn and practice integrity, initiative, work ethic, cooperation, confidence, and service to the community.
