    Substitutes are critical members of the educational team in Richland County School District One. High-quality substitutes strive to ensure that continuity of classroom instruction and other educational services are provided to our 23,000 plus students when regular staff members are absent. Substitute teachers work in elementary, middle, and high schools as well as alternative school settings. Richland One also employs substitute nurses, substitute instructional/library assistants, substitute in-school suspension supervisors, substitute security monitors, and substitute secretaries.

    Richland School District One Substitute Pay Rates - Effective February 14, 2022

    Certified Substitute

    $115.00

    Non-Certified Substitute with a Four-Year degree or higher

    $105.00

    Non-Certified Substitute with less than a Four-Year degree

    $95.00

    Classified Positions for all substitute categories

    $75.00

    Registered Substitute Nurse

    $250.00

     

    Minimum Qualifications

     

    Certified Substitute Teacher

    Requires possession of a S.C. teacher certification.

     

    Non-Certified Substitute Teacher

     Must be 21 years old with a high school diploma or its equivalent (ie., GED)

     If under the age of 21, it is required to have a minimum of 24 semester hours of earned college credit.

     


     

    Steps to becoming a Substitute Teacher in Richland County School District One

     

    1. A completed Richland School District One Online Application

    2. Submit your Teacher’s license or official transcript (sealed) for your GED, high school diploma or college degree to Richland School District One, Substitute Services, 1616 Richland Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201.

    3. Applications are reviewed on a daily basis.

    • Please note: Once an application has been reviewed, the applicant will be notified by email to attend a Richland One Substitute Training and Orientation session.

     


     

    Training Dates

     

    Substitute Services will schedule Virtual Orientation and Training on an as-needed basis.  Applicants are invited to these sessions by email.

    • Direct Deposit Form

    • 2 original forms of identification to complete the Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9
