• Bryan Patterson`s Psychology classes would like to relate what literacy looks like in the Blue Devil Psychology classroom:
     
    Mr. Patterson's students just finished The Celebrity Brain Project, which required students to apply their learning and psychology literacy by selecting a Celebrity/Character and then connecting the traits and actions of the celebrity with certain parts of the brain. This project included renaming the brain part to connect to a specific trait, then explaining why that part is named and how it relates to the function of that brain part.  Students showed their great creativity as well as a high level of understanding.

    ChemMatters
    The Dreher Chemistry Department has introduced into each unit a Science Literacy Day which is intended to help students practice reading and understanding current research in the field of Chemistry.
     
    The American Chemical Society produces monthly ChemMatters Magazines which include research in STEM fields as viewed through a chemical lens. The Dreher Chemistry Department has adopted these magazines into the regular curriculum to encourage reading and comprehension in the science classroom. These articles are written specifically for the high school reader and encourage high school students to make connections between chemistry and the world around them. An article from a new field of study is chosen for each unit ranging from earth and space science to art, culture, food, and history.
