    Hall of Fame logo The Richland One Hall of Fame Induction Gala was held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The Richland One Hall of Fame was created to recognize Richland One alumni and other persons throughout the district’s history who have made significant contributions to Richland One, their communities, their professions and society as a whole.

    Induction into the Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed upon individuals by the Richland One Board of School Commissioners. Ninety-two men and women have been inducted since the Hall of Fame was established in 2004.

    The five members of the 2021 Hall of Fame induction class who were honored during this year’s gala were:

    • Kay Spann Byrd, a 1971 graduate of C.A. Johnson High School whose work led to the creation of the first South Carolina park (The Star of Hope) built and dedicated in honor of persons affected by mental illness;

    • Dr. Tanya C. Dillihay, a 1975 graduate of Lower Richland High School who retired as medical director of the Division of Inpatient Services at the South Carolina Department of Mental Health;

    • Alex English, a 1972 graduate of Dreher High School and a retired NBA player who is considered to be the league’s most prolific scorer of the 1980s;

    • Dr. Deborah D. Hazzard, a 1986 graduate of Lower Richland High School who is the first African-American in a leadership role (associate dean) in the 100+-year history of the University of South Carolina’s School of Business; and

    • Henry C. Young, Sr., a retired Richland One educator who worked in Richland One for 32 years as a teacher, coach and administrator, and is best known for his 12-year tenure as principal of C.A. Johnson High School.
