W.J. Keenan High School Graduate Awarded Dr. Percy A. Mack, Jr. Leadership Scholarship
MacKenzie L. Glover, who graduated in May from W.J. Keenan High School, has been awarded the 2025 Dr. Percy A. Mack, Jr. Leadership Scholarship.
The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a Richland One high school senior who demonstrates leadership skills and potential, as well as well-rounded involvement in co-curricular activities. The scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Percy A. Mack, Jr., who served as the district’s superintendent from 2008-2014. Dr. Mack is also a member of the Richland One Hall of Fame.
MacKenzie was a member of W.J. Keenan’s robotics team, mock trial team, soccer team, FFA and the National Honor Society. Her honors and awards include being an inaugural flight crew member of the Million Girls Moonshot; a guest panelist for the U.S. Department of Education’s You Belong in STEM Conference; a Richland One Legend in the Making; W.J. Keenan’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Year; Richland One High School Scholar and Academic All-Star; and a Columbia Urban League Young and Gifted academic honoree.
In her scholarship essay, MacKenzie wrote, in part: “To me, leadership means using your voice, experiences and passions to create opportunities for others and inspire lasting change. It’s about identifying a need, taking initiative and lifting others up along the way. True leaders don’t just guide, they empower.”
MacKenzie will be attending North Carolina State University, where she plans to major in animal science. Her career goal is to be a veterinarian.
