W.J. Keenan Boys Basketball Team Wins State Championship

W.J. Keenan High School’s boys basketball team won the 2025 Class AAA state championship March 6, defeating Powdersville High School 58-53 at the Florence Civic Center.

This is the team’s second championship win in five years and the eighth under Head Coach Zachary Norris, who has been the head coach at W.J. Keenan for 25 years.

“We’re very blessed. We’re very excited. This win is very big for the City of Columbia and Richland One. Our main goal was to make the city happy for us,” said Norris. “The students were proud to represent Richland One and the City of Columbia. We brought one home for you all.”

The Raiders ended their season with 22 wins and eight losses. Norris says the seniors on the team are especially excited about the win.

“This group of seniors has been there for the last three years trying to get to the finals. They got there and won it. That’s a blessing for them,” said Norris.
