Two Richland One School Nurses Honored with DAISY Awards; Five Nurses Named Nominees
In conjunction with the observance of National Nurses Week (May 6-12, 2025) and School Nurse Day (May 7, 2025), two Richland One school nurses were named honorees of the district’s 2025 DAISY Award.
The awards program, which is run by the DAISY Foundation, recognizes nurses for their compassionate care in their field of service.
The DAISY Awards program started in Richland One in May 2024. Richland One is the only school district in South Carolina and one of two in the United States to offer the award to school nurses.
Sabrina Mosby of Arden Elementary School and Eloise Langenhuizen of Pine Grove Elementary School were surprised with the DAISY Award at their respective schools on May 2.
“It means a lot to be recognized for doing something that you love and have a passion for. I love coming to Arden with the students all day and I have good coworkers. It makes my job much easier,” said Mosby, who has been a nurse at Arden for five years.
Langenhuizen was a nominee for the DAISY Award last year and has been a nurse at Pine Grove for eight years.
“I knew that the DAISY Award was coming up, but I never expected to get the award this year. It’s an accomplishment I never expected to get,” she said.
In addition to Langenhuizen and Mosby, five other Richland One school nurses were nominated for the DAISY Award:
- Carissa Engel - St. Andrews Middle School
- Neille Hawkins – Annie Burnside Elementary School
- Kimeka Jackson - Dreher High School
- Tammy Johnson - Carver-Lyon Elementary School
- Niki Van Alstine - Meadowfield Elementary School
In April, Eunice Jones, R.N., Richland One’s coordinator of nursing services, was named the recipient of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award, becoming the first nurse leader from a school district in the United States to receive the award.
