Lower Richland Army JROTC Drill Team Named First Place Overall in Midlands and State Competitions

Lower Richland High School’s army JROTC drill team was named first place overall in two separate competitions.

The team placed first overall in the Midlands Drill Championship Competition at Lugoff-Elgin High School in Lugoff November 23.

They were also named first place overall in the armed division of the Palmetto State Drill Championship for the third year in a row. The competition took place at Lower Richland December 7.

This is the second time this year that the drill team won first place in a state competition. The team won first place overall in the unarmed division of the Northwest State Qualifier November 16.

The team’s next competition will be Richland One’s JROTC competition January 25 at Lower Richland.

The drill team will also compete in the regional drill competition in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in February. This is the fourth consecutive year the cadets will be competing at regionals.

“The wins for this team heading into the upcoming meets let me know that we are engaged on doing the little things right to be successful. The small attention to details creates results,” said JROTC drill team coach Sgt. First Class Tracy Vaulx.
