Meet the Team: Ms. Tania Bougebrayel
Tania Bougebrayel recently joined Richland County School District One as Chief Communications and Engagement Officer, bringing more than a decade of experience in strategic communications, community engagement, and crisis communications. She is excited for this new chapter and looks forward to getting to know the students, families, educators, staff, and community members who make Richland One such a special place.
Most recently, Tania served as Director of University Communications at Coastal Carolina University, where she led the University's strategic communications efforts and oversaw media relations, reputation management, emergency communications, and CHANT411, the University's information center, while supporting executive communications for University leadership.
Before transitioning to higher education, Tania spent more than a decade in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, building a career across both the public and private sectors. She held leadership roles in strategic communications, public engagement, emergency management, operations, and organizational leadership, including several years with Arlington County Government. Her work with executive leaders, elected officials, community organizations, and residents strengthened her belief that effective communication and engagement begin with listening, building relationships, and earning trust.
A Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and Advanced Public Information Officer (APIO), Tania believes communication and community engagement are about far more than delivering information. They are about understanding the people an organization serves and finding meaningful, accessible ways to reach them. Whether engaging families, employees, students, or community partners, she values thoughtful communication, genuine dialogue, and a people-centered approach.
Born in Lebanon and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio, area, Tania developed an early appreciation for the people, cultures, and experiences that shape every community. She recently relocated to Columbia with her family and is excited to call the Midlands her new home. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, cooking, spending time outdoors, and exploring parks, restaurants, and local events with her young son. As a newcomer to the area, she is always eager to hear recommendations for favorite local spots, hidden gems, and can’t-miss experiences.
Tania is grateful for the warm welcome she has already received. She looks forward to listening, learning, supporting the district’s mission, and helping elevate the voices and stories of the people and programs that make Richland One extraordinary as students, families, employees, and the community continue #RisingTogether.
