Meet the Team: Mr. Kelvin Washington

A seasoned audit and compliance executive with more than 40 years of experience in operational, financial, performance, and compliance auditing across healthcare and federal, state, and local government sectors, Kelvin Washington currently serves as Director of Internal Audit and Compliance/Ethics for Richland County School District One.

In this role, he leads all internal audit activities, oversees the district’s compliance and ethics program, conducts enterprise risk assessments, develops risk-based audit plans, and advises senior leadership and the Board on governance, risk management, and internal controls.

Kelvin earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and completed the Master of Accountancy Program at the University of South Carolina, following studies at Florida A&M University’s School of Business and Industry. Professional credentials include Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Managed Healthcare Professional (MHP), and Health Institute of America (HIA) Professional certifications.

Recognized for strong leadership, ethical standards, and strategic thinking, Kelvin has a proven track record of identifying organizational risks, strengthening internal controls, and driving value-added results.

A respected professional and community leader, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Internal Auditors, as Regional Director of the National Association of Black Accountants, and as a Quality Assessment Peer Review Team Leader for the South Carolina Internal Auditors Association. He remains actively involved with these organizations as well as 100 Black Men of Greater Columbia.
