W.J. Keenan Marching Band Wins Traditional High Step State Championship

W.J. Keenan High School’s Marching Keenan Raider Rubber Band won the 2025 South Carolina Band Directors Association’s (SCBDA) Traditional High Step State Championship for Class A and Class AA.

The state championship competition was held October 18 at Wilson High School in Florence.

The Marching Keenan Raider Rubber Band received an overall rating of Superior, as well as Superior ratings and the highest scores in Music, General Effect, Visual Effect and Drum Major.

The marching band’s final score of 87.413 was the highest of any band, including bands in Class AAA and Class AAAA, in the championship.

“I am beyond proud of these talented students. They have worked very hard, and it paid off in a huge way. The Marching Keenan Raider Rubber Band wanted to bring home a state championship. They set their goals and made it happen,” said Howard Parnell, W.J. Keenan’s director of bands.
