Two Richland One Teachers Among USC College of Education’s 12 Under 40 Alumni

Two Richland One teachers are among the 12 University of South Carolina alumni named to the College of Education’s 12 Under 40. The alumni selected for the recognition are featured in the College of Education’s inaugural 12 Under 40 calendar for 2026.

W.A. Perry Middle School math teacher Chynna Wilson is the featured alumnus for August 2026. She received her bachelor’s in mathematics in 2019 and her master’s in secondary education in 2020. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in educational practice and innovation at USC.

"I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from my alma mater. My time in the College of Education surrounded me with supportive, like-minded peers who stood by me throughout the entire journey. Engaging in challenging courses, attending networking events and being a Noyce Scholar equipped me to become an innovative, dedicated and student-centered educator,” said Wilson.

Meadowfield Elementary School third-grade teacher Anna McDowell is the featured alumnus for November 2026. She received her master’s in elementary education from USC in 2018.

“I am beyond honored and grateful. Being featured in the inaugural College of Education 12 Under 40 calendar is such a meaningful recognition. My time at USC has truly helped me grow as both an educator and a leader. The experience has pushed me to think critically, advocate for equity in education and lead with compassion,” said McDowell.

Wilson and McDowell were recognized during the USC College of Education’s reunion and homecoming celebration October 23.
