Two A.C. Flora Seniors Nominated for South Carolina Football Hall of Fame’s Bridge Builder Excellence Award

Two A.C. Flora High School seniors have been nominated for the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame’s 2026 Bridge Builder Excellence Award.

The award recognizes a current South Carolina high school football player who demonstrates exceptional football performance, academic achievement and leadership through character and service.

A.C. Flora seniors Azel Banag and Blake Betette are among the 71 high school football players from across the state who were nominated for the award.

“It is really an honor to be recognized for my excellence on the football field, my academics, my character and my leadership. All glory to god,” Azel said.

Azel and Blake are best friends, and both say that it’s great to see each other be nominated.

“It is a huge honor to be recognized alongside Azel and all of the other great football players on the list. I am super excited that I’ve been given this opportunity,” Blake said.

Both will continue their football careers at the collegiate level. Azel will play for the University of Oregon. Blake will be playing football at Dartmouth College.

The top three nominees will be recognized during the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame’s annual enshrinement ceremony April 16 in Greenville.

All nominees will receive a certificate of recognition and be invited to attend the Bridge Builder Excellence Award Celebration May 8 at the South Carolina Public Charter School District’s headquarters in Columbia.

In addition, the top ten semi‑finalists will be invited to share their secrets to excellence and success on the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame’s Sports and Leadership Podcast.
