Richland One to Hold R1 CHAMPS Training Sessions Throughout Spring Semester
If you’re interested in volunteering and making a difference in the lives of students in Richland One, join R1 CHAMPS.
The goal of R1 CHAMPS (Caring Hearts Making Positive Shifts) is to place more positive role models on school campuses and help staff empower, inspire and encourage students to achieve their full potential.
R1 CHAMPS volunteers provide an additional adult presence and an “extra set of eyes” on campuses during the school day. They greet students at the beginning of the day and assist staff during dismissal; monitor the halls during class changes and help ensure that students report to their classes on time; and assist staff during school assemblies and special events.
R1 CHAMPS is open to men and women who want to volunteer their time to serve Richland One schools. Volunteers must undergo a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) background check and a Department of Social Services (DSS) Child Abuse Registry check.
Training sessions will be held throughout the spring semester at the Lyon Street Student Services Center (1310 Lyon Street, Columbia, SC 29204) on the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m.
- Thursday, April 23 at 1 p.m.
