Richland One Kicks Off 2026 Superintendent’s Book Club Challenge
Richland One Superintendent Dr. Todd Walker will be soaring to new heights with his incentive for the 2026 Superintendent’s Book Club Challenge.
To become members this year, students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade must read for at least 1,500 minutes from January 12 through March 16. Book Club members will be invited to a special reading celebration in April, where the top elementary school and middle school readers will be announced.
If students collectively read for 2.5 million minutes, Dr. Walker will skydive out of an airplane.
“Reading has the power to open doors to new worlds and ideas, and I’m thrilled to take a leap—literally—to support our students as they take on the challenge. I am confident that they’ll rise together and meet this year’s goal,” said Dr. Walker.
The Richland One Superintendent’s Book Club Challenge started in 2022 as a way to encourage elementary and middle school students to get excited about reading. Last year, the goal was for students to read for two million minutes, and they exceeded it by reading for 4,416,166 minutes.
