Richland One Elementary Physical Education Teacher Named Special Olympics Champion of the Mission

Lucy Allee, a physical education teacher at H.B. Rhame and Rosewood elementary schools, has been named a Special Olympics South Carolina Champion of the Mission.

The award is presented to an individual, family or organization that embodies and advances the mission of Special Olympics South Carolina throughout the year. It honors those who demonstrate exceptional dedication to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities through sports, inclusion, and community support, and helping athletes develop confidence, build friendships and achieve their full potential.

Allee, who is in her first year teaching, was selected based on her commitment to providing students with disabilities opportunities to succeed inside and outside the classroom and teaching students and staff members about the importance of inclusion. She also played a key role in developing Special Olympics South Carolina’s Junior Athletes program, increasing its involvement from eight participants to over 30.

Allee was presented with the award during the March 24 Richland One Board of School Commissioners meeting.

“What an honor! I would like to dedicate this award to all of my students, staff and mentors that helped me get to where I am today in just my first year teaching,” said Allee. “This award speaks to my involvement and love for inclusion within Richland One, Special Olympics, Junior Athletes and all the work I have been fortunate enough to play a part of these past few years. I am beyond grateful for all of the love and support I have received along the way and cannot wait to see what the future has in store.”
