Richland One Celebrates Student Achievement Gains Reflected on 2024-2025 State School Report Cards
For the first time since the state began issuing school and district report cards in 2001, Richland One has no schools rated Unsatisfactory.
The South Carolina Department of Education and the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee released the 2024-2025 statewide report card data November 3. The report cards measure schools across key performance indicators, including academic achievement, student progress, college and career readiness, and school climate. Schools are rated Excellent, Good, Average, Below Average or Unsatisfactory.
Along with having no Unsatisfactory schools, Richland One’s graduation rate has increased to over 84% and College and Career Readiness has increased to 73.3%.
Other points of pride from Richland One’s 2024-2025 report cards include:
- Student Progress for grades 4-8 – Increased to 48.3% (above the state average)
- Multilingual Learners’ Progress – Increased to 47.3% (up 4.1% from the previous school year and above the state average)
- End-Course Examination Program (high school students) – Increases in the pass rate and proficiency rate in three of four subject areas, with double-digit increases in some areas
- SC READY – Increases in the percentage of students in grades 3-8 scoring Meets and Exceeds in English Language Arts (ELA) and math (up 7.5% for ELA and up 2.4% for math)
“It takes a concerted effort by a lot of people to achieve these kinds of results and that doesn’t happen overnight,” said Richland One Superintendent Dr. Todd Walker. “I commend and congratulate our teachers, principals, district administrators and support staff for being intentional in implementing strategies to increase student achievement. Our job now is to build on the progress that has been made and accelerate improvement throughout the district.”
State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver held a November 3 news conference about the latest report card data at Annie Burnside Elementary School, which was one of five Richland One schools that earned an Excellent report card rating.
“This Excellent rating belongs to our entire Annie Burnside family. It reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teachers, the support from the community and their belief in what’s possible,” said Burnside Principal Dr. Janet Campbell.
“Our school made a commitment to work together, focus on growth and hold high expectations for every child,” Campbell said. “When you believe every student can succeed – and show them that you mean it – it changes lives.”
Brennen Elementary, Brockman Elementary, Satchel Ford Elementary and Richland One Middle College also received Excellent ratings.
