Heyward Career and Technology Center Awarded Nearly $1,500 Grant from SC Department of Environmental Services

Heyward Career and Technology Center has been awarded a $1,480 recycling education grant from the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services.

The department’s recycling education grant program “promotes awareness of solid waste issues, including the need to reduce the solid waste we generate, and to recycle whenever we can.”

Heyward is using the grant money to build a recycling center and support the school’s composting program.

“This exciting project is a true collaboration between our culinary arts, horticulture and building construction programs—students learning, leading and making a real impact through sustainability. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible,” said Heyward Principal Craig Washington.
