Specialized instruction refers to a tailored and individualized approach to teaching and learning designed to meet the unique educational needs of students with specific learning challenges, disabilities, or exceptionalities. This type of instruction goes beyond the traditional one-size-fits-all approach. It involves adapting teaching methods, materials, and strategies to accommodate each student's diverse needs and abilities. In alignment with this, Special Education is individually designed to meet the needs of a child with a disability to ensure they receive a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) as outlined intheIndividuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). It can be a curriculum different from the same age, non-disabled peers, or the same general curriculum for non-disabled peers with accommodations, adaptations, modifications, or a combination of the two.
Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
To ensure that students participate in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) by students with accommodations in general education curriculum along with specialized support and interventions such as iReady and Robokind (K-5).
(PK-3) to prepare students to fully participate in the district and statewide testing. Modificationsto the general educationcurriculum are for students who experience intensive academic and or executive function needs and may temporarily be removed from participating in the general education in their deficit area and will receive adaptive curriculum and support through Attainment (9-12), Achieve 3000 (9-21) and Unique Learning (PK-21) to build up students identified deficits with the goal for them to move to accommodations to the general education setting and ultimately fully participating in general education with non-disabled peers. These decisions are made through the student's school-based multidisciplinary team with documented educational data that supports the benefits of temporary removal from general education to participate intensely. We regularly use school and district data related to curriculum, instructional programs, academic, and behavioral support towards specialized instruction practices that are tracked over time to support and assess the effectiveness of special services.
