According to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, the primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty.
Richland One Social Workers uphold the mission of the profession through various acts of services inclusive of:
- Providing direct and indirect services
- Resource coordination
- Acting as a liaison between home and school
- Intervening in crisis
- Addressing mental health and attendance concerns
- Facilitating trainings for faculty/staff, students, and parents
- Removing barriers that inhibit academic progress and advancement, etc.

School social workers serve as a link between the home, school, and community. They work to ensure students remain in school and graduate, reach their fullest academic potential, and grow socially and emotionally.
As part of the educational team, social workers support students’ success in schools and in life by removing barriers that interfere with their performance.
School social work coordinates services that are provided to assist students to reach their fullest potential include but are not limited to:
