Program Description
The Evening High School is designed to serve Richland One students interested in obtaining a high school diploma, but due to life circumstances have dropped out of school or are unable to attend school during the day. This high school is not an alternative school; it is a high school that operates at an alternative time. The school’s target population:
- Previous year dropouts
- Current year dropouts with preference given to 12th graders
- Students not eligible for enrollment in the Adult Education Program
- Referrals from the Hearing Office
- Students who need one or two courses to meet graduation requirements
- Diploma track students receiving special education services
- Students who prefer a small learning environment
This program operates on an alternative time schedule, Monday - Thursday, from 4:00 pm – 8:30pm and Friday 9:00am to 3:30pm,on the district academic calendar. This schedule enables students to hold a job, meet family obligations and upon meeting the requirements, graduate from high school. Friday is an advisor/advisee day, optional for students to arrange to meet with the Evening High School Program Staff to make up seat time, assignments, classwork, and volunteer hours.
