Elementary Math

The mathematical mission of Richland County School District One is to provide rigorous and engaging, student-centered instruction that empowers students to become flexible and proficient problem solvers.

Core Mathematics Program

The South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards guide the planning and implementation of each math lesson. Mathematics is taught daily for 60 - 75 minutes. The district instructional guides are the primary resource for planning and instruction. Math in Practice, Hands-on-Standards, and Big Ideas are the approved texts. Freckle is a personalized math program that also differentiates instruction and is linked to STAR results. Various formative assessment tools are used to determine instructional decisions and meet the needs of students.

  3. Use critical thinking skills to justify mathematical reasoning and critique the reasoning of others.
