Parenting Tips to Support Your Child

Communication

Puppets- make a puppet using a small lanch bag, an old sock, or a paper circle glued on a Popsicle stick! Use the puppets to have conversations with your child.

Feely Bag- gather items from around your house and outside. Put the items in a paper bag, Have your child chose an item without looking, and guess what it ist All About Me have your child make a book about themselves. They can add pictures of family members, friends and things they crjoy using magazines.

Fine Motor

Signed by the Artist- have your child paint, draw or collage. After they have finished their creation, have them write their name!

You've Got Mail- when the mail comes to your house, have your child open the junk mail using their fingers. You can also help your child write and mail letters to family members or friends!

Water Painting- on a warm doy, give your child a bucket of water, one or two paintbrushes, and an old sponge. Find a safe drivewey, fence, or sidewalk where they can use the water to draw pictures and patterns. Watch their creations disappear!

Problem-Solving

Rhyme Time when you are in the car, bus, or taking a walk, play a rhyming game with your child. Think of a word and have your child cone up with a rhyme. Next, it's their turn!

Grouping and Sorting- gather a lot of things in a small container (buttons, coins, odds and ends). Have your child group the things by color, size, or whatever categpry they decide!

Broadway Baby read a story to your child, and then encourage them to act out the story.

They can act out different characters, the beginning, middle, end, or their favorite part!

Additional Support

Play games with your child like Go Fish, Old Maid, Animal Rammy, Candy Land or others!

Encourage your child to read, by modeling reading sit down with a good book or magazine and have your child pick their favorite story to read next to you!

Cook with your child to encourage measurement and math. Have them help you measure ingredients, count eggs, and stir!
