English Language Arts
Overview
In developing and defining a plan to ensure early literacy success for all children, it is essential to focus on practices grounded in research. Richland School District One and The Office of Early Childhood Education’s Framework for English Language Arts instruction is the Balanced Literacy Model. In this model, all students can learn to read and write effectively through universal and consistent implementation of best practices.
The Richland One Literacy Framework incorporates the philosophies and research of Lev Vygotsky, Irene Fountas, Gay Su Pinnell, John Hattie, Lucy Calkins and colleagues of the Teacher College Reading and Writing Project. Richland School District One’s instructional framework consists of five dimensions of teaching and learning, identified as; planning, teaching, engagement, environment, and assessment.
