CTE Playbook
CTE Playbook
Greetings,
The Office of CTE is elated to offer you a plethora of information and resources to assist with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary for students to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. Our team’s goal is to support educators in preparing learners for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies, and by making academic content accessible to students by providing learning in a hands-on context. As a result, collaboration between the CTE team and educators will ultimately prepare students for success in college and career by helping them develop the skills, technical knowledge, academic rigor and real-world experience for high-skill, high-demand, highly successful careers.
This unique CTE Playbook supports educators in molding students into citizens that align to the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate, which includes World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and Life and Career Characteristics. Collaboration between business/industry, CTE teachers, career guidance, administrators, post-secondary, and parents will equip students with the skills needed to seamlessly transition from secondary to post-secondary education, the military, or career.
Career and Technical based education will help students to be more than just an average student. The academic pathways can give students what is needed to succeed for life: technical skills, academic skills and employability skills. In addition, career and technical education helps students see how what they’re learning applies to the needs of employers. Regardless of whether students are headed for college or the workforce, this type of education will help them prepare for the future. In fact, college-bound students can get job experiences to help them define their career plans, identify an appropriate course of study and help pay for tuition.
Throughout the school year, the Office of CTE will offer engaging professional development designed to provide learning opportunities in Career and Technical Education content, develop best practices for use in the classroom or in administrative roles, create strategies to prepare South Carolina students for college and career readiness, and prepare educators in developing stronger CTE courses and programs for the success of all students.
We look forward to working with you!
Ms. Tana Lee
Director of Career and Technical Education
